Biography

Tony Ray-Jones (1941–1972) built in the span of a decade a body of work which has marked the history of British photography. His images have participated in the evolution of the medium which took place between the 1960s and the 1970s, just as the decline of photojournalism led photographers to more creative fields. Since his death, Ray-Jones has come to incarnate the British independent photographer, whose artistic vision places itself over commercial consideration. He distinguished himself as a documentary photographer through the strength and precision of his photographic style.
